entryway

I took my friend Elaine to the Habitat re-store yesterday. She and her husband just bought a house in Baltimore and will be making it there own soon. We were bumming around the neighborhood and I thought I would show her the place. So we walked around a bit and I found this marble.
I had seen it before and thought it would look great in our entry way but I didn't know the dimensions, so I measured and made a note in my phone. Yay for me, I had them on hand when I went back. I need 6 pieces and they had 7, for $14, so it was meant to be!

Now, all I need is for Jay Arthur to show up at my door step:)

Night Stands

I finished the night stands. It took forever but they look pretty. I thought stripping the clear lacquer would be easy but it wasn't. I had to scrape it 3-4 different times, depending on the area...sigh. Anyway, here they are. They look great and we are another step closer to a grown up room.

I was a bit scared they would look too big next to our low bed because they are technically side tables, but they work.

If I could just get rid of the gold wood paneling with out plaster invading my bedroom:(

Night Stands

I have been on the hunt for night stands for our bedroom since we moved in. I wanted some that were kinda funky, functional, paintable, and roomie. Well, I finally found some. At the moment, they are pretty ugly, but once I get a hold of them, they will be beautiful. I bought them today at the Habitat for Humanity re-store. It is an awesome store about 2 miles from our home that sells furniture, doors, cabinets and building materials that were not used or were pulled from the homes before they were re-built. I love going there on Saturdays because they usually have good deals on building supplies and its just a good place to support.

I haven't decided what color to paint them since our color scheme in our room is red-orange, blue, and white. Most likely I will paint them white because I want them to a)not look too weird cause they look weird already
b)stay neutral so our bedding can be a bit more colorful
c)white is the most practical and could be used in other color schemes

I won't paint the inside but I will put some wall paper/shelf liner on the bottom because there are a few stains and scratches that need to be dealt with.

Again, I know they are kinda tacky at the moment but I promise they will look cool once I am finished...I should be finished with them on Monday and I will post the results...stay tuned!
